Target group

Single homeless unemployed people. Must be entitled to housing benefit. The applicant is to be motivated to remain abstinent from alcohol and illegal substances. A period of abstinence prior to acceptance is advisable. Priority given to applicants with a local connection to Watford, Three Rivers or Hertsmere.

Will not accept

Each applicant is individually assessed. People with a repeated history of violence or arson.

Referral procedure

Initial contact by phone Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Application form completed by prospective resident. Interview. Require proof of identity.

Support services

5 full time staff, sleep-in cover. Keywork system, weekly meetings for general support, advice and to discuss progress. Support plans drawn up with keyworker. Other services which may be involved in the support are the mental health team, CRI-Spectrum, Social Services or Probation. Weekly meaningful occupation is part of the support programme. Daily structured involvements in the hostel preparing for independent leaving. Residents must commit to obtaining new skills through college courses or voluntary work.

Mental Health Support Worker on staff team.

Access to move-on

Resettlement officer provides move-on support and advice. Follow-up tenancy sustainment. 5-8 local authority nominations each year. Trust has 6 move-on flats (Alpha Court) and 4-bed move-on house (the Manse), 5-bed move-on house (Hosier House), 13 flats.

House rules and tenure

No alcohol or non-prescribed drugs allowed on or off the premises. No smoking allowed in communal areas. Licence agreement.

Resident access

Must be in by 12 midnight.

Visitors

Between 9am-10.30pm in communal areas only. No overnight guests.

User participation

Residents' meetings held every month, normally chaired by project staff. Provides feedback to management and plans social activities. User satisfaction surveys.
