Target group

Refugees aged 18-30 resident in Waltham Forest who are in housing need, isolated and have low support needs. Target 42% women.

Will not accept

Those who are not in receipt of benefits.

Referral agencies

Agency referrals only via Forest YMCA. Most referrals come from agencies working with refugees in Waltham Forest.

Referral procedure

Application form completed by prospective resident or referring agency. Require Home Office documentation. Applicants must be resident in Waltham Forest. Must be eligible for benefits. Email referrals to rgriths@forestymca.org.uk

Support services

Support staff available Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, 9am-5pm Sat & Sun24 hour duty staff. Residents are encouraged to identify their own needs with a view to their eventual resettlement. Staff assist with general orientation, life skills and in gaining access to services such as health care, legal advice, education and preparation for employment.

Access to move-on

Resettlement support includes accompanying residents to view move-on accommodation, help with benefits and utility connections. LB Waltham Forest bidding system.

House rules and tenure

No alcohol in communal areas. No smoking on premises. Residents must complete 3 week induction programme. Excluded licence agreement.

Own key, no access restrictions.

Regular meetings. Tenants' forum meets every couple of months.
